To increase Google ranking, is a blog a better place to house articles or a menu bar?

Scott D asked:

Two month old website.
I want to boost google ranking.
I’ve written articles, and plan to pursue a link building strategy
Is it wiser to keep all articles in a blog on my website OR to have a tab on my website called ‘media’ and have all the articles listed there? If it’s a blog, of course I’d send only one article at a time to other sites requesting linkage (not the entire blog itself)

Blog is definitely the best way to post articles. Google places high value on blogs and a good blog can help you achieve higher traffic. As far as the Google ranking is concerned it depends. There are around 200 different lines items that Googles algorithm looks at before deciding the rankings. If you are trying to rank for an extremely tough keyword like credit cards, insurance or mortgage then it will take a long time and ton of backlinks to rank high. If you have found a niche or long tail keyword category and posting articles on blog and consistent link building will definitely help.

Even though social media has transformed the ranking system Google still values a backlink more than any thing. Even if you post fewer articles and if they are really viral and link worth you should be able to get high rankings.

So to answer your question once again in one line I would suggest you should post unique content on your blog on consistent basis (atleast once a week) and constant building backlinks.
